Some staples from the bulk section at Green Hut |
Whenever I mention the Green Hut, I always hear. “Oh, neat!
Where is that?” If I respond with “Barefoot Landing” I tend to get blank
stares, while “The same plaza as Spencerport Krony’s” elicits nods of
understanding. The Green Hut is my favorite of the several neat shops filling
the space between the Pineview Family Restaurant (which I’ve never been to) and
Krony’s Pizza (almost as good as Hamlin Krony’s ;-).
I discovered the Green Hut in the Suburban News, the free
local circular published by Westside News. My pulse quickened when I saw
“Natural Food store” and “Spencerport” in the same sentence! I like Wegmans
“Nature’s Marketplace” but it has no bulk section. I liked Lori’s Natural
Foods’ bulk section, but its prohibitively far away from Brockport.
Enter Green Hut! I’ve loved this store since they first
opened almost a year ago. I love that they are a small business selling
products I need and want at good prices! Here is how they describe what they
do:
“Green Hut LLC is a natural organic and gluten-free food
store, personal care items, home cleaning supplies, supplements, and bulk
spices, herbs, flours, nuts, rices, seeds, seasonings and more. Many local
products are available such as honeys, milk, coffee, goats milk soap, and baked
goods, both gluten free and regular natural. We have expanded our
products by over 50% by what people ask for. Special orders are
welcome. There is a punch card for percentage off for being an ongoing
customer. Regular sales are held plus the "clearance bin" which
is beloved by many. Our mission is to provide healthy products at
reasonable costs along with information.”
Some of the things I love about the Green Hut:
-Their bulk section. I buy everything
for my breakfast oatmeal here—oats, dried cherries (yum!), walnut pieces, and
maple sugar. Beans, flours, spices, teas…even sucanat (a minimally processed
sweetener). Want to try something new, like garam masala (an Indian spice
blend) or malt powder? Just buy a little bit. They have many organic options,
too. You will almost always save money buying bulk.
-Sales and promotions. There is always
something on sale. Liking their Facebook page will keep you abreast of the
current promotions. Recently I got a free tub of Tru-whip (a healthier whipped
topping) with a purchase over $20! They also have a coupon on their website for
10% off any purchase.
-They Take Requests. I asked for
unsulphured apricots in the bulk section and they stocked them.
-Sample Tasting Days. About once a month they have tastings in the shop.
Previously they sampled gluten-free products, and then teas. The next one is
Saturday, March 31st, for sampling a variety of things.
-Quality Products. From household
cleaners like castile soap, to local grass-fed beef and Pittsford Dairy milk,
this store is brimming with healthy, good for you and the world products. Oops,
am I gushing?
In my experience David, the owner, and Donna are friendly
and knowledgeable. It is such a pleasure shopping at Green Hut and I am
confident that you will find something you love there too. That is why I’m so
excited that Green Hut is willing to bless one of you local readers with a $10 in-store gift certificate! Just
enter on the form below with your Facebook login, or name and email, and in
seven days I will use a random number generator to select a winner. Then I will
email the winner who will have 48 hours to respond or I will pick another. You
